Coorg, also known as Madikeri (Kodagu), is a Hill station in the Western Ghats, best known for it's Coffee Plantations and Tala Cauvery (the origin of the river Cauvery). The drive from Chennai to Coorg is around 590 Km thro' Vellore, Krishnagiri, Hosur, Bangalore, Mandya, Mysore. Tho' there is not much tourist sopts within Madikeri, there are some nice enjoyable places, worth a bit of driving in different directions around Madikeri.
Raja's Seat is the most famous tourist spot within Madikeri and an awesome place to spend the evenings enjoying the sunset and procastinating time, sitting at the lawn garden gazing the beauty of the Western Ghats, as the Raja did during the historical period.
Abbey Falls, a scenic, photogenic Falls not suitable for bathing is within Madikeri town limits. The view of the Western ghats en route to the Falls is amazing.
The Dubare Elephant Camp is a good place to go for a Elephant ride and get engaged in activities like bathing & feeding them. The camp is located on the banks of the river Cauvery, which also has river rafting activities (most enjoyable in June, July during monsoon, when the river is almost full).
Nisargradhama is an island formed by the river Cauvery, with a Hanging bridge, Deer Park & Elephant ride inside the park. For plant lovers, there is a good Nursery near the entrance selling different varieties of plants at reasonable price.
Bylakuppe is one of the largest Tibetian settlements in South India, known for its huge Golden Temple, housing the 3 photogenic Golden Buddha statues. The temple has a shopping square, where a collection of Chinese Feng Shui items & toys are sold.
The Iruppu Falls is en route, near to Nagarhole, with a pretty long and steep trek to the falls from the entry point. One should take the Hunsur / Virajpet route from Madikeri to this Falls and the Wild Life Sanctuary.
Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary, a drive of around 100 Km from Madikeri, has a good number of fauna including Elephant, Deer, Sambhar Deer, Bison, Peacock, Wild Boar, Fox, Tiger & Cheetah. There is a high probability for sighting Deers, Elephants & Bisons and should be lucky to see the others. The last Safari vehicle leaves for the forest by 5:30 PM.
Coorg as a whole is a silent place to relax and enjoy at a mid level altitude, in the right season !!!
