Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary

Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, a 80 Km drive from Chennai is a paradise of birds. The sanctuary is the home for thousands of migratory birds from Siberia, Russia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma and several other countries during the months of November to March. The most interesting fact is that, they fly thousands of miles to this small village, hidden from the rest of the world for these 5 months to hatch their young ones and fly back with their new family to their homeland. A variety of birds like Egret, Pelican, Stork, Painted Stork, Sandpiper, Heron, Cormorant, etc... flock the marsh lands surrounding the Madurantakam Lake. The villagers support these migratory birds by eliminating lights near their settlements and donot even celebrate Deepavali, so as not to disturb them. A visual treat, full of birds !!!

  1. Very Nice blog post. Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary offers a picturesque view to its visitors and those of you who enjoy long treks and spotting migratory birds can plan a trip here. Before planning a trip to Kanchipuram, check out these hotels in Kanchipuram and book a hotel in advance.
