Yercaud, located in Salem district, Tamil Nadu, is a 350 Km drive from Chennai via Villupuram, Ulundurpet, Athur, Salem. It is a part of the Shervarayan Hills of the Eastern Ghats.The ghat road is well maintained, tho' there are no proper sign boards in Salem city to guide the direction to Yercaud. The hill town is formed around the Lake circle and has a lot of coffee plantations as well as the fruits grown here have a very good taste.
The sight seeing list at Yercaud is limited and the entire hill station can be covered in one day.

The Deer Park is located on the banks of the Lake and a drive further thro' the adjacent road will lead to Lady's Seat, Gents Seat and Rose Garden. The Lady's Seat and Gents Seat are near by and they offer a good view of the Salem city and the Yercaud Ghat road. A walk further down will lead into the Rose Garden.
Pagoda Point is in a separate direction from the Lake circle, whereas Botanical Garden is en route to Shervarayan Temple.
Kiliyur Falls is largely dependant on the seasonal rainfall for its water and it requires a pretty long trek to reach the falls. Its good enough to check with the locals before venturing.
A good weekend holiday spot at a medium altitude and a perfect place to relax and enjoy the climate on the right season.

I am planning to visti Yercaud with family. What is the good tim to visit? Where to stay? All in budget please.
ReplyDeleteThe summer season is not a good time to visit Yercaud, as the hill station is not at a very high altitude and your expectations of a hill station wont be met, whereas the start of the windy season onwards from July till Feb will be good. We stayed at Durga Residency and it was comfortable, but there are other good stays too. Good luck!!!
